Towards the ice
A founding field note on why Sikumut writes from the routes, communities, and operations behind the work.
This is the first field note from Sikumut.
These notes are written for the people connected to the work: the hunters, families, local partners, and communities Sikumut works with in Upernavik, Kullorsuaq, Qaanaaq, East Greenland, and the routes between them.
They are also written for the people who work with Sikumut from outside Greenland: partners in cruise operations, science, film, expeditions, and tailored journeys.
Field notes will be published when there is something useful to share.
They may include:
- Notes from the ice, coast, routes, and seasons.
- Stories from journeys and operations, shared with consent.
- Reflections on how the hunter network and partnership model work.
- Updates on what Sikumut is building, what we are taking on, and what we are choosing not to do.
The purpose is simple: to show how the work is shaped by the field, the people involved, and the conditions that make each operation possible.
